List: 5 Badass Ladies with a Current Comic Series

5. Kamala Khan from Ms. Marvel by G. Willow Wilson and Adrian Alphona

Kamala Khan is hands down is the best Pakistani-American, teenage superhero out there in comics today. She is kicking complete butt while juggling school, family life, religion, and her Wolverine fan fiction. Definitely check out this series if you haven't yet.

4. Carol Danvers from Captain Marvel by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Dexter Soy

Carol Danvers, formerly known as Ms. Marvel, became Captain Marvel in 2012 with a new series written by Kelly Sue DeConnick. DeConnick's Carol is more self assured, but her character goes through some tough things that really show the strength of her character. The series did so well that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) announced a Captain Marvel movie as part of their Phase Three of movie releases, with the movie currently scheduled for 2019.

3. Alana from Saga by Brian K Vaughan and Fiona Staples

Landfall and its moon Wreath have been at war since before anyone can remember. Soldiers Alana (a Landfallian) and Marko (from Wreath) should hate each other but instead they fall in love and have a child, making them outlaws on the run from both governments. Alana is one mama bear that you do NOT want to mess with. She will do anything to protect her family. And even though her and Marko have an often tumultuous relationship, their love is what keeps them strong.

2. Laura from The Wicked + The Divine by Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie

The second Image title on our list, Laura is only one of many amazing female characters that can be found in Gillen and McKelvie's The Wicked + The Divine (WicDiv). Every 90 years the recurrence happens and 12 gods from various pantheons are reincarnated. The catch is that they are only around for 2 years before they die again. This time the Pantheon have manifested as pop idols with many adoring fans. Laura is exceptional in that she is not supernatural like her idols. She is a typical teenage girl who is determined and headstrong. When Lucifer (she likes to be called Luci) is put on trial for a murder she did not commit, Laura takes it upon herself to find out what really happened. And that is only in the first volume. This is a series like no other with characters that are not your traditional superheroes. Catch up soon because the series just came back from hiatus and new issues are being produced.

1. Robyn Locksley from Robyn Hood written by Pat Shand and

I might be biased, but Robyn from Zenescope Entertainment's Robyn Hood is one of the best ongoing series in comics. In the current ongoing series, Robyn finds herself back in New York City with Marian after having defeated King John in Myst. Along with Marian, a witch who came along with her from Myst, they set up a detective agency and find themselves fighting all sorts of supernatural enemies. Robyn is a kick ass, no hold barred kind of girl and Pat Shand writes her with depth and feeling. Catch up now, because the ongoing series is going to end with issue #20!

Update (4/20/2016):

Although Pat Shand's amazing run on the series is coming to an end, we have just announced that Robyn will be getting a brand new series, starting in June. Check out all the details here.
